Having been obsessed with both Seventies Mustangs and hairy chested Trans-Am racing, Chris Ashton – co-founder/design director of video game company Turtle Rock Studios – wanted to hand-build himself an old school race-car for the road. But with Chris being a keen autocrosser, it had to be functional. This Mustang runs massive rubber – 315mm for the front and 345mm out back, all wrapped in super sticky Toyo R888R track tyres, which Chris had to hand form three-inch steel fender flares for the bodywork to make them fit. It also runs a carbureted LS427 – GM’s aluminium-blocked 7.0-litre beast, now making 625bhp and around 560ft lb of torque.

Where the Mustang is all analogue techniques and old school knowledge, the GT40 is a different beast. It’s underpinned by modern methodology and contemporary componentry. Unsurprisingly, Chris’ handiwork, dedication and sickening obsession runs throughout the whole car. Attached to the Ford Racing 52XS V8 engine (putting out 580bhp and 445lb ft) are headers and a handmade octopus equal length exhaust. It’s a majestic Medusa-like plait of metalwork that not only looks stunning but amplifies a classic Americana noise to perfection...

Today Architectural Digest travels to the Catskills Mountains in upstate New York to tour the Rock’n’House, a remarkable family home built around a 12,000 year-old-boulder. Some might have found themselves between a rock and a hard place after finding a prehistoric glacial erratic in the middle of their land, but for architect Christian Wassmann, it was just what he was looking for. The boulder became the central feature of Wassmann’s design and is always present in his family’s impressive home–the perfect example of how humans and nature can coexist as one.

Today, AD is welcomed by Diplo to tour his private jungle paradise in Jamaica. Since the beginning of his career, Jamaica has been a significant haven of inspiration for the Grammy award-winning DJ and producer so it made perfect sense as the location for his own tropical retreat. After purchasing an ambitious 50 acres of land, Diplo assembled an inspired team of artists to help bring his vision to life over the next 10 years. The years of work have resulted in an indoor-outdoor concrete villa clinging to the lush hillside. Bridges, trellises, and breezeways connect the space, allowing the jungle to weave into the home as if one. Now Diplo walks around his new home confident that his dreams have been realized through these years of hard work. “This project was all about patience. There were so many ways that it could have failed, but we kept finding solutions. I thought that, if nothing else, at least I own a bunch of banana trees.”

Witness the power, dedication, and skill of Olympic athletes as they compete for their chance to shine on the world stage.

Break. Climb. Skate. Ride. The Olympic Qualifier Series is the ultimate stage for Paris. The two-part festival-style series will make its first stop in Shanghai on 16-19 May. The final leap for athletes to secure a spot in an Olympic Games. The results here will help determine which athletes qualify for Paris 2024 in breaking, BMX freestyle, skateboarding, and sport climbing. The Shanghai event will be a celebration of sport and culture, with music, fashion and art combining with the sporting competition to create a festival experience. It's a chance for fans and athletes alike to go watch and try different sports, experience epic moments together and meet a lot new people.

The Olympic Qualifier Series serves as the ultimate qualification stage on the road to Paris 2024 for BMX freestyle, breaking, skateboarding and sport climbing. In total, over 150 quota places for Paris 2024 will be allocated following the Series in accordance with the relevant qualification systems.

The Olympic Qualifier Series employs a points system designed to determine which athletes will secure quota places for Olympic Games Paris 2024. The International Federations are responsible for determining the rules related to the points system of their respective sports.

Athletes in BMX freestyle, sport climbing, and breaking will compete for a maximum of 50 points at each of the events in Shanghai and Budapest, making a maximum possible total of 100 points per athlete. Points from both stops will be compiled into a ranking for each of the sports, that will determine which athletes earn quota places for Paris 2024.

For skateboarding, the points system is divided into three parts: results from prior competitions and the results from the Shanghai and Budapest Olympic Qualifier Series events respectively. One-third of the points are allocated from past competitions, while the remaining two-thirds will be up for grabs in Shanghai and Budapest. The combined points from all competitions will give the final ranking.
