These drone shots of the water and yachts made for such a cool filming experience. This was by far one of the coolest locations I have been to. We had to take a ferry over from Los Angeles, California. Bringing the equipment over was a challenge itself. I got some more vlog content from this trip too. The team trained at Real Madrid City and completed another day's work in preparation for the match against Celta, in the tenth round of LaLiga. Designed as a tree house and woven into the landscape of California’s Martis Valley – within striking distance of Lake Tahoe – is Analog House, jointly designed by Olson Kundig and Faulkner Architects. Due to its location and the nature of its form, the home seamlessly echoes its alpine surroundings and becomes part of the forest floor through conversational design. Situated in a dense forest, the architecture was conceived to be environmentally sensitive. The glass doors and exterior rainscreen are made of recycled steel and the wood frame employs engineered wood studs, joists and rafters. The structure’s steel skin also requires no maintenance and is fire-resistant. As such, the architects not only created a dwelling that nestles into the surrounds but one that greatly considers and responds to the environment.

As seen in the house tour, there is a harmony in the home’s design; it offers seamless transitions from room to room, showcasing the transformed spaces both inside and out. Designed as a tree house, the pièce de résistance of the dwelling is the steel tower – a three-storey structure that rises from the main volume. Designed as a guest wing, it comprises bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a rooftop deck with sweeping views. In the main volume of the house lies the kitchen and utility areas, with moveable glass doors that open up to the outdoor spaces and allow for plenty of fresh air to enter the abode. From here, the house tour leads to a concrete pavilion, which houses the living room and, further along, the primary bedroom and study.

Enhancing the transformation of the home is the material choices throughout. The design team took cues from the landscape, weaving the structure around existing pine trees and using the clearings to establish habitable ground. The result is a series of perpendicular cement, steel and glass volumes that afford panoramas at every angle and blur the line between nest and nature. Interactive moments also feature throughout the dwelling. For example, the custom fireplace between the kitchen and porch, which can be converted into an Argentinian grill using a hand-cranked mechanism. Offering a seamless connection to the surrounds, Analog House by Olson Kundig and Faulkner Architects is designed as a tree house that serves as nature’s nearest neighbour.

With four-million people sharing the world’s largest natural harbour and 50-miles of coastline, blessed with incredible waves year round, Sydney is a modern metropolis on the water, with a storied, gritty surfing underbelly.

From Isabel Letham famously riding waves with Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku at Freshwater Beach in 1915 through to a string of world champions including Tom Carroll, Mark Occhilupo and Layne Beachley, and on down the line to modern stars like Molly Picklum and Jarvis Earle, Sydney’s competitive bloodline runs deep. While the greater surfing community might know and toast the world champions, it is the hardcore local boardrider scene that is the DNA everything is built upon, and from Maroubra to Avoca and Newport to Bondi, host Ashton Goggans meets a cross-section of crusty locals, and explores the world class waves they live and breathe.

On the back of radical surfing Sydney was not only responsible for the surfboard revolutions of the Brookvale Six and the invention of Simon Anderson’s thruster, but spawned an irreverent and sardonic multi-million surf industry of its own. If that’s not enough, the good old Aussie cafe, complete with avocado toast, washed down with a flat white, has become a global phenomenon, and they were largely born of the beaches too.

RDJ House is nestled on a descending slope within a forest reserve, blending with the surrounding topography. Designed to appear as a single-story structure at first glance, the house gradually reveals two levels. The ground floor features open social spaces with travertine floors, natural wood, and large glass panels that blur the boundary between indoors and the surrounding nature. A floating swimming pool connects to the garden, while the upper-level bedrooms offer panoramic views. Below, the basement hosts entertainment and utility spaces, with stone and small window facades contrasting the airy upper floor. Today, AD joins architect Masato Igarashi of IGArchitects to see how he makes the most of his small Tokyo home. Tokyo has the highest population concentration in all of Japan, so large plots of land have been divided into two or three across the city, making tiny living the reality for many residents. While his home is technically only two floors, Igarashi fits an impressive seven staggered levels into the home with no walls, creating an open space where the seventh floor feels like the same room as the first.

Completed in 1952, the house seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor living, reflecting Ossipoff's philosophy of "Hawaiian modernism." The design features extensive use of natural materials, such as wood and stone, large sliding glass doors, and expansive lanais that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The house's open floor plan and thoughtful attention to climate and site-specific conditions underscore Ossipoff's commitment to creating harmonized spaces with their environment.

The Liljestrand Foundation, established by the Liljestrand family, aims to preserve and share the architectural and cultural significance of the Liljestrand House. It's finally here: Elon Musk has revealed his long-awaited autonomous Tesla Robotaxi – also referred to as the Cybercab – at an event in Los Angeles, USA.

Looking a lot like the VW XL1 (remember that?) the Robotaxi has no steering wheel or pedals and just two seats. As the name suggests, its crisp flat surfaces and full-width light bars have more than a passing resemblance to the Cybertruck, too.

This, then, is Musk's vision of a grand autonomous future, and he promises the Robotaxi will be in full production by 2026, with prices starting from $30,000.

A fleet of 20 fully functioning prototypes were built to run around the Warner Bros. Studio lot – the venue for Musk’s big reveal – and take passengers on short, obstacle-laden routes. Top Gear duly hailed one, so join our Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix, for a first ride in the new Tesla Robotaxi…

Addressing the issue of connection deficit in vertical living, Upper House fosters a sense of community among residents. Crafted by Koichi Takada Architects on behalf of developer Aria, the ultimate penthouse and spacious apartment building proposes a new, healthier way of inhabiting a city.

Set in South Brisbane, known widely as a social and cultural hub, Upper House sits close to art galleries, theatres, bars and cafes. The project takes cues from the suburb, inviting people to come together: while the building offers 1000 square metres of communal amenities, it also embodies a work of art and features the ultimate penthouse. Michael Hurley, development director at Aria, describes the design as “a series of dancing balconies” with timber ribbon running up the facade and a triple-height timber rooftop. “[The design] just screamed out and said ‘world-class, never-been-done-before’. It was curvy, it was organic, it was unique, and it was Aria” he says.

At the base of Upper House, a large podium displays work by Indigenous artist Judy Watson. The piece recognises the Turrbal people as the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which the project is built. Beyond the podium, the facade is inspired by Moreton Bay fig trees – what can be viewed as ribbons are timber ‘roots’ framing the main structure and the ultimate penthouse. Curling around the edges of the roof, the bold details form a pergola and shading device that protect the open wellness retreat. “[With this design] we can bring people together to challenge and address what we call ‘connection deficit,’ but also reconnect with this garden space that appears on top of the building and celebrate biodiversity,” says Koichi Takada, principal at Koichi Takada Architects. "When you come out to the residential amenity, the wellness retreat, you're coming out to this infinity pool and it's really breathtaking.” If residents fix their gaze on the pool as well as the city panorama in the background, the amenity appears to float serenely in the air. With its allusions to roots and tree canopies, the space also celebrates the subtropical climate of South Brisbane.

“The interiors are neutral and timeless,” says Georgia Wilson, director at Koichi Takada Architects, “and they really slow you down from the fast-paced environment that we're used to living in.” A rational floor plan of the ultimate penthouse includes high ceilings, full-height windows and skylights to create a tranquil and light-filled environment. In addition, a restrained decorative palette of natural materials allows residents to personalise each space. “The timber flooring and joinery are consistent in colour to really bring in the ambience of the outside,” says Wilson. “It's a building that breathes and allows you to slow down and breathe with it.”

With city views, organic forms and natural materials, the ultimate penthouse and apartment building enables effortless appreciation of the South Brisbane context. Balancing a sense of the urban and organic, Koichi Takada Architects and Aria created healthy living spaces in which residents can easily connect to one another.
