Audi Just Made A Three-Seat F1 Car… For The Road!

There have been a few cars that have bought Formula 1 technology to the road, from the likes of the Ferrari F50 and McLaren F1, through to the Mercedes AMG One and the Aston Martin Valkyrie. But the first one was conceived way back in the 1930s…

And it’s only just been finished!

Why? Because Auto Union (now rolled into the Audi brand) came up with the idea to clothe its Grand Prix cars in sleek bodywork and sell them to rich folk. But it never got beyond the sketch phase – until Audi Tradition recently pulled out the original plans and decided to build the car, with every single part utterly bespoke.

This then, is the priceless Auto Union Type 52, the newest, oldest ‘F1 car for the road’. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Rowan Horncastle…
