In 2015, a pop culture-obsessed journalist from suburban Chicago had an idea. While anchoring for Complex News, Sean Evans was tapped by First We Feast founder Chris Schonberger to host Hot Ones, a YouTube talk show with a ridiculous premise that would soon find even more ridiculous success.

Applying new media savvy to old media formats, Evans and Schonberger took a deceptively simple idea and gave it depth with rigorous research, sharp editing, and an undeniable respect for the classic interview format.

In 10 years, Hot Ones has amassed over a billion views on YouTube and spawned a cottage industry of spice-centric products. But the ride to the top came with its own heat.

The latest door to open led to their biggest move yet, when Sean and Chris partnered with the Soros Fund to buy First We Feast and Hot Ones from Buzzfeed for $82.5 million.

And it all started with one idea…

Today, AD is welcomed by Lenny Kravitz to tour his regal home in Paris. The superstar musician has loved Paris since he first visited in 1989 but it wasn’t until the early 2000s that he decided it was time to get a place in the city. With a small apartment on the Seine in mind, Kravitz's vision deviated a little when he ended up viewing the grand mansion of Countess Anne d’Ornano. Having started his AD100 studio, Kravitz Design, Lenny spearheaded the design of his home. Soulful elegance was Kravitz’s design philosophy, filling his home with photographs, artwork, and artifacts connecting him to his ancestors and influential figures from throughout his life. However, the true heart and soul of the house lies downstairs in the boiler room Kravitz converted into his own speakeasy-style club.

Every month the subject of marriage generates tens of millions of search queries across Google, YouTube, and ChatGPT.

For years, the 50% divorce rate has been widely publicized, leaving many terrified of entering a marriage that might fail. As a result, the number of people choosing to stay single has skyrocketed—and for those who do get married, prenups are becoming the norm.

So to really do this topic justice, we are exploring it through the ultimate contrast: a pastor and a divorce lawyer.

Over the last couple years, James Sexton has become the most famous divorce lawyer in the world. Even though he barely uses social media, his social following has gone up 600% since the beginning of 2024. He’s been featured on nearly every major podcast, and many of those conversations regularly get millions of views. Much of the general population loves him because he tells it as it is, with blunt and no-nonsense insights.

On the other side, we have Carl Lentz, who pastored Hillsong NYC for ten years. At its height, nearly 10,000 people attended Hillsong’s Sunday gatherings on a weekly basis, which made it the largest church in New York City. Due to its success, Carl became a fixture in the mainstream media and for a time, generated more publicity than any pastor in the world.

After a highly public downfall in 2020 and facing the brink of divorce himself, he rebuilt his marriage from the ground up. Now, alongside his wife Laura, he shares hard-earned insights on relationships through their podcast, which topped the documentary charts on Apple in 2024.
