The perfect Porsche 911 doesn’t exist, right? And even if it did, how do you pick from the ever-increasing list of great rear-engined Porsches?

Are you a fan of the OG 2.7 RS? Or on the side of the 997-generation GT3 RS 4.0? What about the 911 R? That’s leaving aside all the race cars, too.

And then there’s this, the 911 S/T. Built by Porsche (in limited numbers) to celebrate its 60th birthday, it mixes GT3 RS oily bits with GT3 Touring discreetness to give us, effectively, a successor to the 911 R.

We already love it after driving it on the road (which is where it was designed to be) but can it stand up to being thrashed on track? And if so, where does that leave it standing in the pantheon of Porsche greatness. Over to Top Gear Magazine’s Head of Car Testing, Ollie Marriage, for this most arduous of tests…
